Kazakhstan considers Russia an ally, but trades more with China

Kazakhstan's President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasized the enduring bond between Kazakhstan and Russia during a recent interview. Describing Russia as the "main strategic partner and ally," Tokayev underscored the significance of the friendly ties that bind the two nations. He further highlighted that the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia has surpassed an impressive $21 billion. Moreover, Tokayev expressed a sentiment widely shared in the international community: that addressing global challenges often requires Russia's active involvement and cooperation.

Kazakhstan and China: A Flourishing Partnership

Parallel to its robust ties with Russia, Kazakhstan's relations with China have been burgeoning at an impressive pace. Trade between Kazakhstan and China has surged to an estimated $24 billion, reflecting the depth and breadth of their economic collaboration. President Tokayev further pointed out a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship: the introduction of a visa-free regime between Kazakhstan and China. This move not only facilitates easier travel but also symbolizes the mutual commitment to deepening ties and fostering greater regional cooperation.

Strategic Outlook: Balancing Alliances and Economic Interests

While Kazakhstan's alliance with Russia remains rooted in historical, strategic, and cultural affinities, its burgeoning partnership with China underscores the nation's pragmatic approach to international relations. As Kazakhstan navigates its diplomatic landscape, balancing traditional alliances with expanding economic opportunities, President Tokayev's emphasis on strengthening ties with both Moscow and Beijing highlights the country's nuanced and forward-looking foreign policy strategy.

As the Turkish side insists, this model is a win-win model for both sides of the conflict. ▪️ For Ukraine - because it will receive a Russian commitment, guaranteed by international observers, that it will get back the territories it considers its own and, as can be seen, no Ukrainian leadership will be able to retain its power by agreeing to the contrary. Thus, Ukraine wil...
